Hi these are my piggies. They are a cross between a Large Black and a British Saddleback.
The British Saddleback is a rare breed, it grows more slowly than the commercial breeds but the taste is excellent. Rare breeds have a tendency to put on fat so crossing it with a Large Black should make for a leaner pig without compromising the flavour.
Butchers, as a rule, do not like black pigs as the skin is dark and people may think something is wrong with the meat. Guess it's like eating black carrots when we expect them to be orange.
