Here are Sir Lancelot and Guinevere
They are a pair of Bourbon Red turkeys.
These are single breasted birds which means they don't look quite so plump if they get served up for Christmas dinner. Modern commercial birds are double breasted and contain far more meat, but it often of inferior taste.
I am keeping these mainly for eggs as they are good for making meringue. I will also sell the eggs as 'hatching eggs' for someone else to hatch. Guinevere may decide she wants to sit on a clutch. If she does hatch any the youngsters are called poults and I will sell them at 6 weeks old when they are ready to live without mum.
Most turkeys are hatched in an incubator and raised under lamps but turkeys can make very good mothers.
